UCI World Championships

This past weekend was the UCI World Championships in Rotterdam, Holland. Cristian Becerine and Anthony Dean were out in Holland not only representing both of their countries, Argentina and Australia, but also flying the flag for the team as well. Cristian was out on a mission to take the Masters World Championship Title that he’s been chasing for the past few years. Everything went to plan during racing with Cristian winning the Semi-Final and taking the lead in the final. Unfortunately, last year’s World Champion, Kelvin Batey, put a move on Cristian going into the last turn, which meant Cristian had to defend the lead which ultimately resulted in both Kelvin and Cristian losing momentum and being passed. Cristian crossed the line in 3rd place and got a respectable bronze medal for his effort. We know that Cristian’s going to work really hard to have another shot at the title in Belgium next year.

Anthony Dean went into the World Championships in great form after a solid two weeks of training in Europe with the Australian National Team. As predicted, the Elite racing at the World Championships is always crazy – everybody wants a spot in the final and a chance to become World Champion. Anthony’s game plan was to take one race at a time and put himself in the last 8 and lay it all on the line. Well, that’s exactly what he did qualifying for the final is no easy task – Anthony made the main but unfortunately had to deal with lane 8, which was a huge disadvantage on the short first straight. Still, Anthony kept focused and put in a solid first straight and came out of turn 1 in 3rd place behind Connor Fields and Sam Willoughby. Anthony could see already there was a good chance Connor and Sam would make contact in the next turn – he kept on the outside and started planning for the high-low pass in turn 2 but unfortunately, Connor went down resulting in the whole pack going down including Anthony. Needless to say he’s disappointed that the World Championship podium was in his grasp but wasn’t meant to be this year. We know all he can do is learn from this and stay positive. Congratulations to Sam Willoughby on the Win.

Team Update

It’s been a busy week for Cristian Becerine, as he was in the MidWest conducting clinics in both Indiana and Ohio and then made his way to South Park, Pennsylvania for the USA BMX Stars and Stripes Nationals. A couple of wins in the bag for Cristian and he’s back on a plane headed to California for a few days rest before heading out to Nevada – Boulder City BMX for another Chase/Stay Strong Clinic on Thursday, July 10th from 6:30-8:30p.m., along with team rider, Bryce Betts. The guys will then race the Las Vegas Nationals July 11-13 and the following week – we kick off another session of our BMX Pro for a Week summer camp with the YMCA. Keep an eye on all of our social media outlets for daily updates.

USA BMX Midwest Nationals

This past weekend, the team headed out to Rockford, Illinois for the USA BMX Midwest Nationals. Anthony Dean was back in the states and looking to add to his mark in the AA/Elite Class. Anthony rode consistently all weekend long at the top – putting himself in the main event both days – but had a problem out of the gate on Saturday that cost him a potential podium – finishing up in 7th. Sunday, again a little late out of the gate in the final but he still came back with a strong 5th against the World’s best. Anthony will now spend the next month getting ready for the UCI World Championships coming upon Holland next month. Cristian Becerine had another weekend with a 2nd place on Saturday and a win on Sunday and a few more points toward his year end score. Cristian now stays on the road for the next week where he will be conducting clinics in both Indiana and Ohio and will then move into next weekend’s race in South Park, Pennsylvania.

Great Salt Lake Nationals

Over the weekend the team traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah for the USA BMX’s Great Salt Lake Nationals. It’s always one of the team’s favorite spots to stop with great weather and a challenging track. Bryce Betts is really starting to come into form going into the summer months, making 3 out of 4 mains with his best place finish a1st in Open on Sunday. Keep an eye on Bryce’s social media- he has been writing some great road trip reports for bmxnews.com – alongside doing a number of clinics. He’s been a great asset to the team, as he’s creative and always on the go.

Cristian Becerine had an up and down weekend – he crashed out Saturday in the main but came back strong with a 2nd on Sunday. Anthony Dean was really looking to put in a strong performance this weekend but was held back a bit by a crash on Saturday. Battling through a bit of soreness – he tried to race Sunday but was in too much pain so he called it a day. He’s already en route to Germany, as he prepares for the third round of the UCI World Cup Series.

Team manager, Dale Holmes, decided to race Saturday only and managed to get the win. All in all a decent weekend for the team. Next up, Rockford in a couple of weeks.

Albuquerque USA BMX Spring Nationals

Over the weekend, the team headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the USA BMX Spring Nationals. It was the first time we’ve had a full team line up in awhile, as our guys have been busy in different parts of the world fulfilling commitments and racing.

Cristian Becerine has been recovering from a bit of a knee injury sustained in Atlanta a few weeks ago but decided to give it a go over the weekend. Saturday, Cristian was winning the final and unfortunately unclipped and it cost him a podium but Sunday he came back strong taking a win.

Bryce Betts raced all three days and made 5 main events. He came away with two podiums and a good, consistent showing for the weekend.

Anthony Dean was back in the states from world travels and even though the results don’t show it, he was riding well all weekend but crashed on Saturday while in a qualifying position in the semi-final. Sunday, same bit of bad luck struck again and a crash kept Anthony out of the main event and the fatigue from travel was really starting to set in. It was time to head back to San Diego to regroup.

Team Manager, Dale Holmes raced and took the win both days in his class.

All in all, a good weekend. Cristian heads out to Nashville this weekend and the full team line up will be in Salt Lake City the weekend after – keeping it busy, just the way we like it.

UCI World Cup Papendal, Holland

This past weekend, Anthony Dean was in Papendal, Holland for the second round of the UCI World Cup. Despite terrible weather all week, Anthony stayed focused and didn’t let the weather talk him out of putting on a good performance. Just like Manchester, Anthony was winning laps all day long and was really hungry for another podium and a chance to challenge for a win. A few mistakes in the final cost him the podium but he pulled through with a solid 4th place behind Sam Willoughby and World Champion, Liam Phillips. Anthony now sits comfortably in 2nd place in the UCI World Cup overall points going into Germany next month.

Next up for Anthony, it’s heading back to the US to get back on the USA BMX tour for the next several weeks.

Australian National Championships

Close race this past weekend for Anthony Dean at the Australian National Championships battling all the way to the finish line with Sam Willoughby. Anthony just missed the Australian National title by an inch on the line. To battle and be so close with Sam was a great confidence booster for Anthony. He is already on the plane heading back to Europe for the 2nd Round of the UCI World Cup in Holland next weekend where he hopes to capitalize on his 2nd place from a few weeks ago at Round 1 in Manchester. We’re pumped with how well Anthony is riding right now and wish him well in Holland.

UCI World Cup Manchester World Cup Team Report

This past weekend was the 1st stop on the UCI World Cup Series in Manchester, England. Our Anthony Dean hooked up with the Australian National Team for the first training camp/trip to Europe of the year. After a successful camp the week leading into the race, Anthony started to feel more comfortable on the big hill.

Once race time arrived, his confidence was really up and he was banging out wins straight away. After a solid win in the semi-final, Anthony knew that the podium was in his reach. Although he didn’t have the best gate he rode a smart, solid lap and secured his spot on the box with his first ever 2nd place on the UCI World Cup podium. We know there is much more to come.

Anthony continues his World tour – now headed for Australia to race the National Championships scheduled in the next couple of weeks. He will then be back on the road again for the second stop of the UCI World Cup Series in Holland. Special thanks to BMX Australia and to all of our team sponsors for supporting our program.

Great start to the Season for the Chase / Stay Strong Team

It’s been a great start to the Season for the Chase / Stay Strong Team. We really couldn’t have asked for a better start to the year. First of all, our new AA/Elite rider, Anthony Dean, represented us well at the first few rounds of the Australian National Series down under in Nerang – Queensland. Anthony hit the podium all three days with (2) 1st’s and a 2nd – a solid start to Anthony’s year for sure. After spending some time with the Australian National Team training, Anthony plans to head back to the US to continue preparing for both the USABMX and UCI seasons.

Over in the US, it was the USABMX Season Opener in Reno, Nevada, where both Cristian Becerine and Bryce Betts made their team debut. A great weekend for both guys with Cristian walking away with 2 wins and Bryce securing a solid 3rd in the highly competitive 17/18 Expert class. In short, another great weekend for the team.

The first stop of our Clinic Tour kicks off on Saturday, Feb 1st, at Freedom Park BMX in Camarillo, Ca from 1-3p.m. – the entire team will be present. Please see our posted Clinic Flyer for further details. Hope to see you there.

Anthony Dean at Nerang Nationals in Australia

A great finish to the weekend with another win for Anthony Dean on Day #3 down under in Australia for the Nerang Nationals. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the year and our new program. In addition to Anthony’s results we’ve had a lot of positive feedback from everyone over the last few days and I share all of our thanks to all for that. It goes without saying that it’s been a lot of work to get this going but with a simple goal and plan to work hard all year and grow the program, I’m confident we’ll get there.

Great thanks to our sponsors and supporters who have made this possible. Cheers to an unforgettable 2014.
